Eclipse AVN6600 Install in 03 with JBL system

I came across a good deal on an Eclipse AVN6600 so I decided to get it. It came with the Eclipse iPod IPC-106 which works great. I also bought a Sirius Tuner SIR-ECL1 and rear view Camera BEC-106. I have a 2003 SR5 with the JBL 10 speaker system. I ended up purchasing the Metra TYTO-01 for $60 from Circuit City. It has worked great so far. I used the Scosche Dash Kit TA1465B.

The install was pretty easy, I would say the hardest part was the rear camera. I wanted it to look factory so I had to remove the back piece on the rear door. I ran the wires through the factory location so that took some time but it looks clean. Here's some pictures of the install.

Do you have steering wheel controls? Does the TYTO-01 provide that, or is there some other device you need?

I can't find a link to the TYTO manual anywhere, but the Metra site refers to the ability to update the harness via USB. Anything you can tell us about that?

What is your opinion of the iPod integration? I had an installer tell me Eclipse iPod integration sucks. Can you browse artists, genres etc?

The iPod integration is excellent, it works just like your using your iPod.

How do you remove the panel above your rear license plate (the piece that you mounted your camera to)? Can you remove it from the outside, or do you have to open the rear hatch and remove it from the inside after you take apart the inside of the rear hatch?

Did you spend time choosing between the 6600, the Kenwood DNX7100 and the Alpine IVA-W205? If so, how did you make your decision (aside from the sweet deal it sounds like you got on the 6600)?

I have a '05 with the single disc JBL with the sub, and steering wheel controls.

1. Can I just plug this thing in and will it work with the existing speakers and steer wheel controls? I don't really want to upgrade everything, but I have to say that I am interested in this thing.

2. Does is come with all the necessary cable for the Ipod and Steering wheel stuff or do you need to purchase special stuff?

3. I have heard that the JBL system with the sub has it's own special wiring, does this thing work with all that stuff?

You have to remove it from the inside, it's pretty easy a couple of bolts and it comes off.

You will need to buy a harness from Metra or Scosche for all the speakers to work with the JBL system. If you purchase an Eclipse unit it is plug and play with the steering wheel controls. If you buy any other unit you will need to buy a separate adapter from PAC I believe.

For most units you need to buy a special cable to use your iPod. For the Eclipse units its a small tuner box plus a cable. I believe for Pioneer and Alpine units its just the cable.

This is great news about the interface adapter, before learning about it, I thought the only way to add an aftermarket nav was to bypass the factory amp.

Had a question, in the pic it looks like the unit is sticking out about 1/2 inch? Is that really how it is, or is it just the pic?

I was also wondering about the surround sound that our JBL units had. Do you still have that?

Because I found this and wasn't sure if it was needed too or not?

Yes the unit sticks out a little bit but it still looks good. No sure about the surround sound. Every speaker works and it sounds great.

oh have another question,

with it being plug/play with the steering wheel controls, does that mean it could work with the phone answer button that the factory nav model 4Runners have?

Just wondering if it's possible to add the button to our models, and have it hook directly into the Eclipse unit?

I have not idea, mine doesn't have that option.
