Eclipse AVN6600 Questions

This 1st question is for people who have already installed an AVN6600 or AVN5500 in their 4Runner.

If you've installed one of these units in your 4Runner; how does it look? Were you or the installer able to get it looking something like a factory install?

The reason I'm asking is because I had this installed last night in my 2004 Sport Edition (replacing the factory JBL changer) and I think it looks like crap (gaps on sides and bottom). I will be going back to the shop as soon as I'm back in town but I wanted to find out if anyone else has an install that looks good and I would really appreciate a picture or two to show the shop what it should look like.

We have an 05' Sienna with the factory Navigation and this is very close but one thing I don't like is that you can't search by POI Category or phone number. So it's impossible to search for hotels that are near you or a restaurant if you don't know the name. Does anyone know if the DVDs from an AVN7000 are compatible; it has these features?

One plus is that the volume screen override for NAV functions while driving works so you're passenger can make changes while you drive.

Thanks in advance!

I have the AVN5435 which is eseentially the same as the AVN5500.

I had the same problem that you were describing. I would have gaps to both sides and top and bottom with the double din install with a 6-disc changer. The way to get the cleanest look is to swap bezel pieces with someone who has a single-disc JBL system. So you would need to trade the entire silver bezel and A/C control unit. Make sure the other person's 4x4 config is the same as yours. From there it should look stock, as long as you get the two side pieces kit from scosche or another company, but that's easier to do.

As for AVN7000 compatibility, I'm about to find out if the AVN5500 DVD will work with my AVN5435. I don't know. Will post something once I find out.

I was able to verify that the factory NAV DVD and my AVN6600 DVD appear to be interchangeable. I swapped them and drove around the neighborhood and everything seems to work just fine.

Unfortunately the POI Category search is a function of the unit itself and it works fine in my Sienna with the factory NAV and DVD from the 6600.

Does anyone know if there is a way to enable this feature on the AVNs?

AVN5500

Thepsychogoalie,

I'm interested to find out how your install is going? Were you able to correct the gaps? I'm also in HR, CO and would love to take a look at your setup. I'm considering the AVN5500 now. Also, which shop did you use?

Thanks!
