Eclipse AVN726E Help

Hey guys, couple days ago I decide to spend my tax return on an Eclipse nav. So far so good, install was fairly easy (altho I'm still working on modding the metra faceplate I bought, what a pain) but I'm having an issue.

Everywhere I read and on the box it says the unit is preprogrammed with maps of North America. But when I drive around its shows no roads and doesn't let me "find an address" or "poi" that are Canadian.

So I thought I'd try to update the maps since there outdated anyways but them when I download the update and burned it onto a disc the unit doesn't recongnize anything.

I don't know, I'm a bit lost any help would be much appreciated

RE: Eclipse AVN

Hello. First, did you select your location in the settings? Like, the continent is broken up into numbered sections and you have to tell is where you are for the stored POI's to load. It should be under settings, map disk, location. California Nevada, Arizone would be section #1 for example. Section #2 would be Oregon, Washington, Idaho, etc, etc.

That is my first idea at what could be going on. Second, check to see if the GPS icon at the top left(?) screen is bright or grayed out. If it lights up that means you are getting GPS signal, but if it is grayed out you aren't getting GPS. The GPS signal will place your location on the mapdisk while the mapdisk loads the millions of POI's around you.

Third, there are a lot of "mapdisks" out there to be downloaded but not all of them contain all the required hidden files. I would suggest trying to continue troubleshooting with the original disk just to start off on the right foot. I hope this helps, I'm sorry I can't be more clear. It has been 9 months since I've seen my 4runner.

Yah, thanks I figured it out. I took your first idea and tried to select Canada in the maps but it wasn't there. So I checked the maps it had loaded and all it had for Canada was a "basemap" which just gives you basic terrain info, no poi, no roads or water(?). So I got an updated map online and load it in. Everything works great now.

On a side note, I'm really loving the unit. Nice looking, sound is 10x better then stock, I find it really puts the JBL sys to work. The nav is awesome, route calculations are practically instant and its very user friendly. I've only had it a couple days but so far so could. Also, the metra dash kit actually looks decent. I had to do extensive trimming but for $20 I can't complain. However it did seem to fit some double dins at the store better than it fit mine.
