Eclipse HU and steering wheel controls 2004 SE T4R

I bought a new Eclipse AVN21D navigation head unit for my 2004 SE T4R. It's very similar to the AVN20D unit. I've done some searching on these forums and found that eclipse units will integrate with the steering wheel controls without the need of adapters. Is this true or will I need to purchase something extra? Any opinions on Eclipse units and does anyone have a DIY in installing it yourself.
