Eclipse leaving car electronics aftermarket

Bummer. I just bought an eclipse amp from Crutchfield on a huge sale price. Works great, hope it stays that way.

I just bought my 2nd Clarion h/u. I don't see them going out anytime soon but they are a big OEM manufacturer too, so the aftermarket products may be relatively insignificant for them. Eclipse products never really appealed to me. It seemed like their products offered too little for too much. I definitely agree that the car audio industry is going downhill though, at least for aftermarket. Once auto manufacturers realized that customers wanted better audio and entertainment options and would pay for them, the market share for aftermarket audio really dropped. I think it's the reason why prices for nav units are still so out of range and they offer no added features without paying extra.
 
Another contributing factor is these 12 volt manufacturers who produce the OEM audio/video and navi systems for the car companys offer to much technology. Back in the hay day of car audio the aftermarket was the test bed for the OEM. Also kids these days, who use to be a large portion of the market, just aren't as interested as they use to be. All they care about is a ipod and set of ear buds. Or as we call it in the industry "just good enough audio". It's fun to see the face of one of these ipod generation millennials when you sit them in a car with a decent to good aftermarket system. Most don't know that it is possible to buy such a good sound system for their vehicle.

Eclipse no longer manufacture products for the aftermarket. Toyota/Lexus will most likely continue to see Eclipse influenced interfaces for their OEM navigations.

Fujitsu will merge the Eclipse business with its existing OEM car electronics unit to expand Fujitsu's OEM accessory business, which markets entertainment, communication and safety products as options sold by new vehicle dealers and manufacturers.

Interestingly, Fujitsu-Ten does not list Toyota as one of their customers. (NUMMI, probably has more to do with GM than Toyota. Previous Toyotas from NUMMI did not have nav options, except for the 2009+ Corolla, guessing nav equipped Corollas probably come from Ontario, Canada.)
