My e-brake is useless, so since I was going in for a coolant change anyway ($61 Cdn - all fluid replaced, but not flushed), I thought I'd see how making an extended warranty claim would work out.
I have the toyota extended comprehensive coverage, no deductible.
It was explained to me that for anything they check, no matter how obviously it is broken, they will charge an initial 'diagnostics fee' so that the mechanic can identify the parts to replace and get part #s. Then they run the pn's to see if they are covered under the ECP plan. If yes, then everything is paid for, including diagnostics fee. If no, then I pay for the diagnostics and decide at that time if I want to pay for the repair.
Seems just a little fishy. I told the service rep "It is obvious the ebrake is not functioning. I refuse to pay a diagnostics fee for something so obvious". He countered "my mechanics need to get paid for the time they spend, that includes finding the problem". So we concluded be deciding not to fix the ebrake, and I decided I'd better get really really familiar with my ECP to make 100% sure if I ask for anything that I am certain it *will be* covered.
Side note: I wanted them to do the "audible valve clearance check" and they said "$20"...but they advised me that it is not required for my t4r...this bothers me because the toyota.ca service "menu" lists this as a "todo". Why the discrepancy?
