ECT all the time?

Anyone out there drive with ECT on all the time? I drove for most of a tank full with it on and loved it! I didn't notice any decrease in fuel economy either :confused:

I use mine at all times. I've been doing it for a few months now. I don't even realize it's
on now lol.
 
What exactly does it do i think that it shifts at a higher rpm but i am not exactly sure what the gains of this would be other than more aggressive driving, and louder noise if you have an exhaust

If somebody could explain the pros and cons that would be great

Probably because the lift. Every little bit of power helps lol. I'm hoping to add a s/c soon so I don't have to worry about power lol.
 
I have it one all the time and I love it. Its faster and my mileage is way better...

I have the 4cyl unfortunately so it gives me at least something..
 
I've never left it on all the time. I'll have to try it, but first i gotta change the bulb to blue :bigok:

I like telling people about my extra power button, everyone thinks its so cool lol, even though i cant tell much of a difference at all.

ECT PWR = Electronically Controlled Transmission Power
 
It's nice to leave it "on" in places with lots of hills or steep grade highways since the ECT keeps the tranny from constantly downshifting when you don't really want it to then immediatly upshifting again and then downshifting right away.
 
Took a trip down to Roanoke, VA a couple of weekends ago where it can get pretty steep on the roads. I noticed that if I saw a hill coming up ahead and I pushed the ECT button in, I really didn't have to press down any further on the gas pedal to maintain the same speed. Kinda threw me off, so I did it without the ECT button on later and noticed that the Runner definitely did not want to make it up the hill as easy with the same force being put down. Could definitely notice the speed decreasing...

Oh well just my 2 cents!
 
When I had stock size tires I would see a small decrease in mgp with ECT on, but with larger tires I don't. The extra top end power helps turn the bigger meat and the engine is not laboring as much at lower rpms.
 
Ya I keep mine on most of the time. It just changes the shift points on the transmission. The only times I shut it off is when the roads are wet and in snow stores. Not so aggressive and better for traction I think.

Yeah I always thought it just let the rpms get higher before shifting, but it makes acceleration much more responsive by quickly selecting the right gear. I also noticed that it doesn't always shift at a higher rpm, it only does that if you really step on it. It's perfect for the hilly terrain and highway merging I constantly do on my commute.
