Educate Me On PCV Valves

We both have 2001s and the part # I bought was 12204-62010

The one you received looks different than the OEM Toyota one I received

Did you pull your PCV out just for me?! Either way, thanks for the part number. More than anything, it's a great close shot of an OEM valve [emoji1360]

The complication is how do we even check this? I usually rely on what other folks have stated on the forum. Is there a website that shows all the true OEMs per part? I doubt it.

I guess I really don't care. Just buy Genuine Toyota parts and live on worry free, knowing you've got good parts on your rig!

Unfortunately Ebay is full of fake chinese parts. They are very good at replicating everything. I bet if you order the parts from a dealership they will no look like the stuff you got off Ebay.

I have a different approach than most of you on this. On all my vehicles, going back to my 1968 Pontiac LeMans, which became mine in 1971, I have used NAPA PCV replacments and I change them with every plug change, usually 30k. I have never had a problem on any of these vehicles in all this time, so I'm going to keep on doing what I have been doing.

My theory is that it is just a ball in a tube, and an expensive one fouls up just as much as a cheap one, so change interval is more important that how much you spent on it. Yeah, I know the Toyota OEM valves are beefier, but I have never had a NAPA valve break so I am not really worried.

Just my 2 cents on this one.

I try and document all of my parts installs in photos. When I replaced the PCV my truck had a brown plastic one in there from the PO. The Toyota part is obviously much beefier in weight and higher quality. I’m with you on genuine Toyota parts. I pulled the ngk wires for oem toyota wires at the same time I replaced the PCV.

Even if a company WAS making parts for Toyota AT ONE TIME, that doesn't mean the part is currently held to the same standard it was before.

100% true. I used to work for a company that made factory 3rd gen parts. They still make that part, but Toyota doesn't buy it anymore and it definitely would not meet Toyota's quality requirements.
