EFI Problem (Not your typical EFI fuse question)

Hello all...


Long time reader and first time poster. I have done my searching and can't seem to find my problem discussed here. Maybe someone has good insight or dealt with this before. Not your typical EFI fuse question either.

My 1997 V6 Auto 4Runner keeps blowing the EFI fuse ONLY after I put it in gear and step on the gas. If I start it. It will idle fine forever. However when I try to drive off... POP goes the fuse. :crybaby: No wires are exposed. Grounds are all good. It blew the fuse a month ago. I just replaced it and its been fine until last night coming home.

Any thoughts?

I quickly looked at the wiring schematic and from the fuse there is a relay and then that goes into computer.
You have to have a short somewhere, or the computer is shorting out internally?? but I doubt that.

The schematic you posted shows a 20A fuse but my fuse cover shows a 15A... Hmmmm. Now that is odd.

Replaced the relay and it ran fine for about 20 minutes then POP goes the fuse.

I know on the older pick ups and runner that the O2 wires were starting to melt on the exhaust and giving shorts to ground.

It might be a bad fuel pump, shorting out internally?

I know it's a pain to do but check the plug on top of the fuel pump to see if it's melted or something.

This problem might have to go somewhere to have it looked at.
We can be shooting from the hip for days and your without a running vehicle??

Shooting from the hip was right. The O2 wire fell down and was laying on the driveshave. It rubbed through and cause the wire to short. Like one says. Its seems to most likely be the O2 wires in one place or another.
