Is there anyone here from Pensacola, Ft. Walton or the Destin, FL area?? If so I will be down that way on 8/26 and was hoping to find some good trails to ride. I have seen Youtube videos of trails near Eglin AFB and was wondering if those are by chance open to the public or if they are specifically for military guys??? Thanks!

I know it's way late for this- but alot of the Eglin Trails have been closed up. You can contact the Jackson Guard -(850) 882-4164 or (850) 882-4165- for information about the area and about getting the passes you need to be allowed to hunt, fish, camp, and wheel int here.

Hey Nashville runner, I was born and raised in Niceville, FL (right outside of Eglin) and can vouch for a lot of trails. I've been 'wheelin Eglin since I was in a car seat. Although, there are a lot of good trails that have closed, there are some good ones still open. You can go out there and get lost. Pensacola has a lot of good trails out there also. Those videos on youtube you see that say "eglin wheelin" are from pensacola. I've done a couple rides out there, a lot of fun. about 45 minutes to an hour from Eglin. Best thing to do is go to Jackson Gaurd and get a Res. pass and just go explore. Some go to some bad ass clay pits (which are supposed to be off limits) or they go to nothing. Just have to explore.

What's your job by the way? I'm stationed at Kadena AB, Japan right now.

Thanks for the awesome info man!! I am originally from Birmingham, AL but live in Nashville, TN now. I come down to FWB/Destin quite a bit and have always heard info about Eglin AFB and the trails there.

I actually work in the Neurology department for the Vanderbilt Medical Center here in Nashville.

Oh, that's cool. I got family in Birmingham and Dothan.

Eglin is the majority of wheelin this area. There is/was a clay pit in Mossyhead on the other side of the train tracks, but I think they might have closed it. I know they were trying to close it right before I left for the military. There was also another one in Crestview, but when they built the Lowe's they blocked it off. I wish I was still there, I could show you some of the trails around Eglin. Lots of good stuff, especially in the restricted areas :] just don't get caught. lol.
