i have a 1997 limited and after some checking i found my 4runner has the RS3000 system. i found this remote: Toyota 1997 4Runner online and bought it. i have followed the company's programming and it didnt work. i also found this:How to Program a 2 Button Keyless Entry for a 1997 Toyota 4 Runner | eHow.com and it didnt work either.

the only thing i can think of that would make a difference is that the factory radio has been replaced with aftermarket. does anyone have any other info or experience with this remote?

any help is appreciated.
thanks

how can i check to see if i have the rs3000 system? i only have one key from the PO which has the rfid

should be a small black ecu under the driver seat. but mine is does not have the rfid key, so yours might be different or in a different location.

the right key fob

Make sure you have the right key fob. They have black ones and grey ones. I have the grey ones and we have the same truck.

I had to put the key in and turn it on so the lights come on. Push the top button on the fob that has the bumps on it until the red light starts blinking. Then push the green button on your ecu till your security light blinks and your lights start blinking. Thats what I had to do to get my 2 fobs programmed. Hope this helps.

no such luck. thanks for the reply, though.

these are not factory fobs. the guy was good enough to send me a second one but i cant get it to work either, and he doesnt have any other methods for me to try. kind of annoying that they offer a product that doesnt seem to be fully tested.

anyway, i guess i'll have to tear into the dash and see if i'm missing any parts of the rs3000 system that may be preventing the programming.

Before you do that you may want to go by a dealership to see what they say. Might save you some time. :)
