Elderly folks and help keep a eye out for them

Last week it was 10 degrees and very windy , -40 with wind chill. I get up in the morning and open my home office blinds only to see the 87 year old woman laying at the bottom of her driveway. I grab as many warm cloths as I can running out the door . She was laying outside for 2 hours and could not feel here legs and arms , she was laying on her side and could not move. I called 911 and ran in her house and grabbed a big quilt off her couch and covered her. I kept talking to her the whole time since she was drifting in and out a lot. I held her head up until the fire dept. got there ( 15 min ). I let them do there job after that , she ended up with her hip out if it's socket and got the feeling and movement back in her arms and legs.

We need to watch out and help the elderly in these times . I didn't scare me at all , but I could not imagine what she was going through for the last 2 hours .

Yeah, elderly folks can break a hip easily in the slippery stuff.

Good job in taking care of her while waiting for help to arrive, Falls. I am sure that you were her best Christmas present....

When we had our really bad succesive blizzards a couple of years back an older man had a heart attack while shoveling snow and they didn't find him for 4 days it was snowing so hard and fast.

Ron , was the man found dead . Thats so sad to hear about .

The neighbors keep telling me about saving her life , but I was just the messenger that was sent.

We need to watch out and help the elderly in these times .

We need to watch out for each other regardless of age. The young and the elderly deserve extra attention, but it's great to watch out for any neighbor that needs help (Good Samaritan rulings aside: http://www.latimes.com/news/printedition/front/la-me-good-samaritan19-2008dec19,0,5745399.story ).

Yes,unfortunatly the guy in Denver died of the heart attack and then was found frozen.

Probably won't surprise many here what I've learned with all the reading posts and posting on these forums. After a while you get the impression you know some of the regulars pretty well, just because of their replies to your posts if nothing else. This guy, Falls didn't think ''what if?'', he just took care of it ,like Americans do.Great country full of good and caring people....like Falls.
