electical issue - battery light on then off

Hi guys! Got my 4 runner together running nice, but I have an issue with the battery light coming on. The light will flicker, then stay on and I see the voltage drop on the gauge and the lights dim a little. I will be cruising at a steady speed while this happens and I can take my foot off the gas and let the RPMs drop/coast and the battery light goes out and the voltage goes back up.

Is this indicative of an alternator going bad or a regulator about to go out?

Yes it could be, how old is the battery?

Check the terminals nice and clean and tight, the Alternator belt on tight...

When the brushes on my alternator wore out the batt light would come on at low rpms. Would go off when I would rev it up. Got worse and worse so I eventually pulled it off and replaced the brushes for $3. A much better deal than the $184 alternator. Might be worth it to pull it out and see how much life is left in the brushes.
