I have a 93 22RE/5spd with 202k. I was wondering opinions or experiences with electric fans. I use this rig for a daily driver and mainly a hunting rig. This thing is totally stock and runs great other then a rough idle it has developed over the last couple thousand. I trust it enough to take it way back in the hills. I do not need over heating or battery problems 50 miles from cell service. Any comments, suggestions or ideas appreciated.

Switching to an electric fan (with an adjustable thermostatic switch and a manual switch for emergencies) typically add's between 5-15 horsepower depending on the vehicle, and will show an improvement in mileage. Keep in mind that while the electric fan is on the extra draw on the alternator sucks away the extra hp and mileage. make sure you get a high CFM quality fan and have it installed properly. Only use Bosch 30 amp relays...not Bosch clone crap relays. I've retro fitted MGB's to CJ5's this way...It will pay for itself.

i do not have any real experience in this feild, but i do know that electric fans do not rob HP off your crankshaft. they do however increase power and gas milage, but rob power from your alternator. LCEngineering does make a nice kit that you can purchase. from the amount of electronics and accessories i wanna run, especially the party speakers for camping and bush parties, i am going to need a airplane alternator hahah just kidding. does anybody know a link for a dual battery install?

Your alternator spins real easy when theres no load....Put a load on it..like that of a high CFM electric fan, and the load will drop the RPM's of your engine. So, when the electric fan is running you wont be getting better mileage or horse power. But, while the fan is not running, you will have more ponies and be getting better mileage. Electric fans are the logical way to go....Unlike mechanical fans, they only cool when the engine needs cooling, thus, they are only robbing engine power when its necessary for engine cooling. Electric fan or mechanical fan really doesn't matter to the radiator...as long as the fan is supplying enough cubic feet of air per minute to cool the engine. The fan could be powered by coal for all the radiator cares. The vast majority of modern cars are cooled by an electric fan only.
