Electric CUT Out

If your sick of your stock exhaust and want to piss the neighbors off i recomend a Electric cut out. With a flick of a switch you can go from street to off road. i just put mine on infront of my cat and it sounds like a Tank.

It's just basically a flap that installs between your heads and the exhaust that opens the exhaust when you flip a switch. This would just be running the exhaust straight out of the headers like a drag car. It does sound good...

But I think that can be bad for a motor that isn't setup for open headers, because there is no exhaust backpressure. I also think it's illegal to run open headers on the road in most places. It would probably be ok as long as you didn't run it open too often though.

I know, old thread, but has anyone ever done this? How about installing one just before the muffler, on a v8? Is there room?

Most reviews seem to say that the motor/flap wears out over time and won't seal. I've installed a manual cutout with wing nut bolts and it worked great. Had it on a truck for years and was always taking it off and putting it back on. I'd recommend that route if you don't mind 5 minutes or less under the car.

I agree, I've been running the same manual one as you for about 2 years on my V8 and it sounds/holds up great with it off. However I have ordered an electric one for two main reasons: The first is just for convenience, I would rather be able to open and close the valve from a button than go underneath the car and manually do the nuts and bolts to secure it. Saves from getting dirty and allows me to open/close it when the exhaust is hot or the ground is wet and I don't want to be dirty. Another reason is I noticed that with the simple cutout I have now, about 20% of the exhaust still flows through the muffler, meaning it isn't as loud as it could be. The system I bought on amazon is a dual valve system that will close the muffler path completely and only allow the air to flow through the cutout when I want it to. So I can be as obnoxious or quiet as possible at the push of a button. Hope this helps anyone who is considering their options.
