Hi there. I plugged a flashing beacon into my cigarette lighter and Ive blown some fuses. I found the fuse for the cigarette lighter but my stereo, antenna and remote locking don't work. I have checked all other fuses and they all check out OK. There is one fuse which I am hoping is the culprit but I can't figure out how to remove it. Attached is a photo of the fuse, it is a 30 amp fuse that lives in the fuse box under the steering column. If any one could let me know if it is the correct fuse and how to remove it. The vehicle is a 1998 Toyota Surf, right hand drive Japanese import.

On a 4Runner, that would NOT be the correct fuse. The 30A power fuse would take out the windows, moonroof, some others, but NOT the ones you mentioned. Try putting a known good fuse in for the 15A ACC fuse in your pic, top one in left column. That WOULD be the right one in a 4Runner. Visual checks on these mini ATC fuses are not reliable. Some blown fuses are very hard to detect; some are easy.

Thanks, the 15A ACC fuse is the one that was blown which I replaced. It fixed cigarette lighter but nothing else. I removed all the other fuses and physically checked them them with a multimeter across the terminals for continuity and they all checked out OK. The 30 amp fuse looks frosted over compared to the others in the fuse box in the engine bay, which are clear, thats why I suspect it. If i could just figure out how to remove it so I can check it with the multimeter. Also remember my car is a Toyota Surf (supposedly the same as a 4 Runner) so there may be some differences in the wiring.

you can get a simple test light for $5 from a parts store and test each fuse to see if it is good, also try swapping relays if possible if all fuses are good

Thanks, I have tested all the fuses with my multimeter which is pretty much the same as test light. My issue is just that one 30 Amp fuse that I can't figure out how to remove without damaging it so I can test it. It is not a regular type fuse and I can't get it out.

I just ran out to look at mine, used needle nose pliers and it pulled out, but I have replaced it recently (with in the past 6 months) so it might be easier to pull out for me... I didn't see any tabs or clips holding it in.

Just a heads up that in the other fuse box under the hood, the larger fuses have bolts holding them in underneath and they won't pull out. Kind of a pain.

Don't bother. You are lucky is has not caught on fire and burned to the ground. Give up on it.

I'll retire the truck to my parking spot under the carport. Sign the title over to me and you won't have to worry about the rest.

After replacing the blown ACC fuse with the spare in the fuse box, only the cigarette lighter was working again which I found strange because the wiring diagram shows the ACC fuse sending power to the radio and clock as well. I thought I had blown the radio and clock. I decided to buy some new fuses and replaced the fuse again with a new one and everything is working again. Must have been a duff spare fuse. I tested it with my multimeter and it tests fine. Im confused but happy everthing is working again. Thanks for all the advice.
