Electrical Hookup Re-locate?

Has anyone relocated their trailer electircal hookup to a more convenient location? I did a search, but did not find anything. But I thought I did see a thread about this in the past. Maybe I'm searching the wrong keywords.

The electical wires on the last trailer I towed were too short and I ripped them clean off the trailer the first time I turned. What a PITA.

Thanks.

I haven't done it on the 4Runner, but I did it on my Tacoma. On the Tacoma is just hung down waiting to get ripped off:

so I drilled a hole in the bumper and put the connector there. Plus I got a duel connector to allow for a flat or round connector.

The hardest part will be finding a mounting spot. good luck.

I'm planning on moving mine some time soon for the exact reason Jesse brought up. Haven't found a good location yet though.

I did it using door hardware from a household door...works like a charm.

that's really good Snooper, totally out of the way and much easier to get to. nice job.

the one on the Tacoma was just dumb. it was almost like they threw it on as an afterthought. at least on the 4R it's kind of tucked away, it's just a pain to get to.

with a cable plugged into the 7 pin connector the one on the 4R hangs way low. definitely a low point, it's current location won't last long off road with a trailer in tow.

worst case I'm hoping to just move it up even further underneath. doesn't help the OP though.

@op: how about an extension?

I haul an ATV and lawnmower quite often with mine. I just put on an extended trailer wire on my 5x10 trailer. I agree, it is not in the most accessible place-and the longer wire could get cought on some rocks off-road. When it does, I guess I'll move it then.
