Electronic Brake Noise

So I finally took Malorie out for the first time since I purchased her. Hills had alot of sand but didnt get stuck

Anyway my concern. I noticed that after the dealer upgraded the tires when i bought it, I noticed the Electronic Master Cyclinder or whatever its called that is right behind the firewall, makes that electronic noise like its adjusting something, its not too loud but loud enough to here in the cabin. it doesnt stay on, but comes on randomly mainly when i first start it. But I noticed that while i was off roading, i noticed it was louder and more active than usual (which i assumed was because of load/adjusting) but noticed it was really loud when I was testing the downhill assist control, and it seemed like the front left caliper was making alot of noise.

Is this normal and im not used to hearing the electronic brake cyclinder/actuator, or should i not be hearing it? I just dont remember hearing it when i test drove the T4R, only after they put new tires. Thanks

Normal.

ABS and electronically boosted brakes make noise. There is an electronic buzz and whoosh sound at start up on my Cruiser and 4Runner.

Thanks, I assumed it was normal since everything was working fine, but haven't had a vehicle with electronic boosting on the brakes or for it to be noticeable all the time.

You probably just happened to start noticing it now.

It is normal operation for the system in your vehicle. The unit will turn on for 30~40 seconds after you turn the key on and will turn on after the pedal is depressed a few times to recharge the system. These systems do not use the conventional brake booster with a vaccuum line from the engine. They are self contained in the sense that all ABS electronics, solenoids, and power assist functions are built into the hydraulic unit and so you will hear the unit turn on and "recharge" itself to provide proper braking feel and performance.

Thanks! I know ours has that psuedo thing where it brakes on the spinning wheel but figured that was it

I never heard anything like this from my Runner until I added the DS 2.5/1.5 and some 275-75R17 BFG ATs...now I hear some odd sounds coming from the PS. Shouldn't be a problem

Yeah sounds like just the extra load, etc. Has anyone ever had problems with it overheating or wearing out due to stress from lift/wheels?

Mine does the same electronic buzz. It's normal, I've never had a electronic booster system so at first it was weird but I'm used to it now.

mine goes off basically every other time i depress the brake pedal...

its annoying, is there a way to make this thing more efficient so it doesn't go off every 2 seconds? in a 2002 though, not 4th gen
