Electronic Flasher for LED turn signals

I spent 30 minutes searching on this topic, but I have yet to find a solid answer.

I have DRL's, and I want to put a LEDs up front for my DRL's and turn signals. Does anyone know what type of electronic flasher that I can replace with the DRL/Thermal flasher? OR is this even possible to do?

I did it with my 1999 Toyota Tacoma, but it didn't have DRL's.

I don't want to use a resistor. These are dangerous IMHO.

As far as I know, the DRL relay and the flasher relay are two seperate items. Here's a link to v-leds.com where they have several flasher relays listed and a Toyota specific one: http://www.v-leds.com/Shop/Control/fp/scat/132273/SFV/32481 .

One thing to check up on though, I'm not sure the Toyota specific relay that they list is the only style Toyota uses. I could have sworn that I have seen to different styles of LED relays for Toyota use.

When I was searching on this topic, I kept seeing people say there were issues with wanting to go with LED and if you had DRL's.

This is where I can't find any info. I may go to the autoparts store and just try it and see what happens. What can it hurt?

They get hot- very hot- :( warp panels, melt wires ect.)

I mounted a couple 3ohms in my rear tail light area to a little aluminum bracket and left my hazards on for a couple minutes to see if there was any problems and I could smell the plastic of the surrounding area starting to cook...had to wait awhile before I removed them because I would've burned off my digits!!
 
Perhaps you didn't take wattage ratings into account, cause a resistor shouldn't get that hot unless there is a problem, or the wattage rating is too low.

:confused: Not sure but It was actually recommended by autolumination.com for their setup using 4 led units to correct for hyperflash- (front and rear signals)- their product I assume they would know. I even talked with a rep there before I ordered them to make sure...because it does say it would get hot ...just didn't think they'd get THAT hot! ...oh well that's why I've posted my problem- so other people don't just take the advice of the person selling it- that may or may not meet our expectations. Maybe it could cause damage maybe not...I just didn't want to risk it...- high heat= potential damage.

Hyperflash resistors that these sites sell along with LED bulbs all get HOT...VERY HOT, as Wolf puts it. Just a normal thing as LED's do not need relative large amounts of AMPERAGE to operate whereas incandescants do. The resistors are holding back the large amounts of amperage the factory bulbs would normally get and gets hot as a result.
 
Electronic flasher worked perfectly for me. Getting to it is hard. Must take apart half of the lower dashboard, running board and side kick. After finally getting to it, i had to break it off. It's complicated but much safer than resistors.

Did you ever find a LED flasher that works with DRLs?
 
Resistors and relay fix

Thought maybe I chime in, I tried all kinds of resistors from old school gold to Morimoto blues and VLEDS.

Resistors are fine to use, they all produce heat. I've noticed that the gold cheapos get very very hot. The Morimoto and VLEDS don't get as hot.
Also I mount all my resistors to metal and never plastic. If there is no metal available to mount, I let it hang with tie straps holding it away from touching anything. The lower the ohms the hotter it gets.

The LED RELAY FIX is the easier way to go but not available for all makes and cars. YES VLEDS has a handful of LED FLASHER FIX RELAY.
