ELM 327 OBD-II bluetooth adapter...

Hi all,
I have a 2003 4Runner SR5 V8 and I just got an ELM 327 bluetooth adapter to plug into the OBD-II connector and with the Torque app on my Android, I could see lots of different sensors.

I have some questions that I'd appreciate any inputs:

- It lets me to select 'transmission temperature' and I wonder if there is a trans temp sensor on the 4Runner? (the Torque only displays the sensors that it detected so I assume it's valid?)

- The ELM 327 bluetooth adapter doesn't have a power on/off switch and the OBD connector has power even when the key is OFF. I wonder if it's safe to leave the bluetooth adapter plugged in permanently? I really don't want to have to unplug and plug it in when I get in my truck.

My garmin bluetooth stays plugged into my OBDII all the time. It does not have a power switch either. But the power cycles with the ignition. If yours does stay on all the time. I wouldn't see it draining the battery very quickly. Should be fine unless you are not driving the vehicle for long periods.

I appreciate the reply. Thanks. When the ignition was off, the LED still flashed on the ELM.
I'll remember to unplug it when i'm not driving for more than a few days.

I have this same adapter as well... Apparently ScanGuage II's can pick up Transmission Temperature (so it is possible...) However, it does not appear that its yet working on our Bluetooth adapters unfortunately.

I actually emailed the developer, but did not hear back. I really want the transmission temp as well...

i cleared a code from my wife's 2k 4runner using torque and a bluetooth obd2 reader...

a few weeks later my neighbor's mazda mpv van threw a code and i went looking for the reader and couldn't find it.

as i walked by my wife's 4runner i saw a lil red light under the driver dash.

i had left the reader plugged in.

my wife only drives 2 times a week so i guess the reader doesn't hit the battery that hard - lol.

Mine stays plugged in 24 7 no problem. Been that way for over a year

Thank you all. On a side note, are the instant mpg and average mpg from the torque app accurate on yours? Mine were jumping all over the place! It said I have an average of 30 mpg on my V8
(I tried to change the mpg scale factor in the vehicle profile but it didn't seem to do anything, and also whatever I put in the mpg scale it automatically changed the obd speed scale too)
