Emergency Brakes

I recently did the back brakes on my 04 Sport. Now I can hear what sounds like the emergency brake shoes dragging inside the rotor. Also the e-brake is no longer holding the vehicle if I am in drive. Does anyone know how to adjust to the emergeny brakes / cable?

Back in Turkey, I have adjusted e-brake cables on Opel's, but never done it on a 4runner and I am a brand new owner..lol

However, there should be a small adjusting sprocket somewhere on the "Rear" brake assembly thru a lug note hole or something. You should be able to do the adjustment with a screwdriver maybe. It should feel like a gearing system...

Free bump for you though. All I said above are from past experiences. I could very well be out of wack as well. Good Luck...

There should be a reference to this in the manual. Have you tried backing up and tapping the brake repeatedly? Still it sounds like something other than an adjustment is needed. I would go back in and have a look. Anyway good luck.

I havent tried going backwards and hitting the e-brake. The rest of pads seem to have seated themselves very well. Taking it all apart again would be a hassle that I am not looking forward to.

I will look for the adjustment screw or something along those lines.

the adj gear is 9o clock on passenger and 3o clock on the driver's side.

Sorry you even saw this I removed it 5 minutes later as it totally doesn't apply in this situation. There are slots in the backing plate to access the adjusters. Crawl under and look with a flashlight and you should be able to find them.
