Emergengy brake adjustment

Hi kids, I'm new in this Forum and well I'm known at my job for being a car guy ( have made mods to all my cars and well I like to work on them) and I do my best to help people when they have issues such as a woman who has a 4 Runner and says that her emergency brake handle is sloppy and she thinks that should be adjusted.
It has 80k and I believe is a 2000, but she is not sure if she has discs on all 4 or rear drums, I know is a TRD from the decals but that is all I know for now( so when the TRD 4 Runners start to come out??)
Anyway any input will be appreciated it as I will print this out for her to do as she pleases.

Yeah, we care. Interesting questions get lots of feedback. To answer one of your questions, she probably has rear drums, as the 4th gen. is the first to offer 4 disc brakes. :bash:

It has rear drum brakes. With 80k miles, if she hasn't yet changed the rear shoes then they probably need to replaced and this will solve the parking brake issue.

If her brakes in the rear are still good then adjusting the parking brake is a pretty simple procedure for drum brakes.

BTW toybox is the simple procedure involve a turnbuckle in the actual brake lever or going into the brake drum itself....thanks again...

There is a notched wheel you can access through a slot in the back of the drum to make the adjustment. You can do this whith the wheel still on. But I would still want to check whether the brakes need to be replaced which involves pulling the wheel and drum.
