Engine/Driveshaft - Vibration/Noise?

Not really sure what's going on with my T4R as of late... When Im driving there is this somewhat loud hum/vibration comming from the truck. Happens at higher speeds 30mph+. I dont notice it with the windows down b/c of the wind noise, but with it gettin cooler Ive had the windows up and it's noticeble. It's not volent or rough, just a constant hum/vibration. My first thought was drive shaft, but there doesnt seem to be any play in the front or rear when I crawl under the truck and move try to move them by hand. And I cant really pin point it while Im drivin cause it's through out the whole truck, not like front or rear... Any one have any thoughts? Is it just normal driving noise that Im not used to since it's an older vehicle and new cars have so much sound dampening stuff in them now a days, or could it be something else?

This too is happening to mine. Humming vibrating when pushing the gas, goes away when not pushing. All the research I'm doing is mostly leading to the U joints. Mine also has a clunk when going from reverse to drive or vice versa, does yours do this?

Just because you can't feel play in a u-joint, it can still be bad. Pull the drv shft off then try it. A "clunk" is another indication of a u-joint, although the hum/vibe/clunk could also be in the diff.

I just got done battling a similar issue. Mine was vibrating at 30+ but got so bad i couldn't see out the mirrors on the freeway. It felt like one of those machines at the fair you sit down on and the plate massages your feet! I pulled the rear driveshaft and attempted to replace u-joints... not so easy. I bought the u-joints at pep boys and took it to a local driveshaft shop and spent 70 bucks and had them installed and balanced and it cured it. Makes daily driving much nicer:thumb3:

Hey elcidsurfer, just wanted to check in and let you know that (just as everyone is saying) replacing the U joints fixed my issue. The rear joints next to the differiential. Good luck to ya.

Now, if I can just find someone with a low mileage used engine... I'll be set =P
