engine/engine bay dimensions

how long is the engine? and how long is the usable engine bay space?
looking into a possible 6bt swap in the distant future. just trying to collect data.

A 6BT? That is literally stretching it. You will want a stronger drivetrain as well. At that point you are better off with putting a 4Runner body onto a shortened Ram frame. There won't be much Toyota left.

I know it's a 2nd Gen, but the engine bay length is not too different.

I know it's a 2nd Gen, but the engine bay length is not too different.

it looks good. he stretched it 10 inches, BUT from the looks of it, he's got room to spare in front of the fan.
this is just a future thought.
shortening the ram frame is not an option. too many front end problems id have to replace everything in the front end...
much more expensive in my opinion...

The 4runner front end isnt going to last long either, a 6bt is nearly triple the weight of the 5vz.

Jack up the radiator cap and drive the RAM under it. Haha. I'm all about crazy swaps, but this one doesn't add up, at least for me. If you do it, be prepared to spend 2 -3 times what you plan on, and it will take 4-5 times longer than you plan for. And you will only be half as happy as you thought you'd be. Every 10th person will appreciate it for only 10 minutes, most will just shrug, some will not like it.

Oh and your wife will leave you, she'll take the dog too.

eh not married and I don't have a dog.
kinda looking for a long term project just to build on.. wouldn't be a daily driven vehicle or anything. not even sure a 3rd gen is what I wanna build or not... if it was a third gen, it probably wouldn't end up having many true third gen parts on it anymore. but I love the looks of them.

what i'd love to do, third gen appearance, but 7+ inches wider, and 20+ inches longer whellbase 2 inch lift, but improve the up travel by much much more. lol

a turbodiesel prerunner tundra would be fun too. (if you haven't noticed, I have a fascination with diesels)

Dropping the 6BT into a 4Runner chassis will be way more time consuming and expensive. As stated, it weighs WAY more than a 5VZ. Who knows what type of stress that may place on the original frame. The front and rear diffs will definitely need to be upgraded in order to cope with that power. At that point you are going into a solid axle swap. You can pick up a donor Ram 2500 that is already up to the task of handling all this with solid axles already there. You will have to extend the front end of the 4Runner's body either way.

i'd rather do a duramax if it came to that. but what im worried about with that is the engine width, I cant find any specs on that. but then again. I think it would make for a great project.
