engine giving mores code?

So while attempting to jump someone with and effed up battery i noticed a faint clicking sound coming from the driver side head. Are these just normal sounds of the valves opening and closing or is my engine trying to tell me something?

Jumping shouldn't have screwed up anything mechanical.
