engine lights came on plz help

today as i started my 4runner my engine check light came on and stayed on what can i do to turn it off and called the dealer ship and they want $50 to check and to reset it $100 can i do it my self or should i take it to dealership plz help

Well, I'd say it would be a really good idea to have it checked out. Simply making the light go off wouldn't be a smart thing. But yeah. . . Autozone will check it for free. Try them if there's one near you.

Engine light

First question is how many miles? Toyota's, ( I've had many) like to need servicing at around 100,000 miles. The auto zone thing would be a good idea if you have one. I went and got my own computer at Wal-Mart for $60 and found out what the codes were and fixed it myself and was on my way. The port for the computer is under the stearing column. This is very easy, and will also keep you from getting the shaft at the mech shop because you will know just what the problem is, even before the grease monkey can tell you it will cost too much. well i found out what the code was my friend has a computer and hooked up and found out it was a p7040 code recently i put an k&n fipk2 intake in my 4runner and i have about 142000 miles on and whats happening is i am getting more air and computer is not adjusting to the air and the fuel mix up i have lost about 20mpg i used to get 305 on a 16 gal but i have a 18gal tank since the k&n intake i lost some miles but now i am only hitting 285 may be 275 it just matter if i have the a/c on and my heavy foot what should i do guys
