Engine Missing Out, Barely Running

I have a '99 4Runner with a 3.4L V6 and this morning I blew a fuse and while searching for the blown one, I removed the 20A EFI fuse. After placing it back I started up to pull out of a parking lot and the engine was sputtering and missing out. After driving a couple of blocks it started to run a little better and by the time I got on the highway I could get up to speed, but it still didn't have full power as before.

After checking the forums here, I thought that possibly since I had the ignition key on when I pulled the 20A EFI fuse it might have caused the problem. So I unhooked the battery for 10 minutes or so and when I started the engine back up it was worse. I couldn't even make it up the street as the engine was sputtering and backfiring.

Before pulling the fuse this morning it was running fine so I'm not sure what else could be the problem. Did removing the fuse cause the problem or it's just coincidence that it started running like crap at this time.

Any thoughts or help would be much appreciated!

By pulling the fuse and disconnecting the battery you reset the trucks memory. It's probably trying to relearn everything and unless you've had a full tune up lately it's trying to relearn with old plugs wires, dirty throttle body, MAF and old O2 sensors.

It should be okay after you drive it several times.

From everything I've read I kind of figured that was the case and it makes sense that after I disconnected the battery it was even worse. The old truck is in dire need of a tuneup anyways and honestly, it's running so bad I can't even drive it safely down the street enough to reset itself at this point. I ended up driving it down to my neighborhood shop so they can take a look tomorrow. I appreciate your input and thanks for taking the time to reply kball!
