....yeah I did it as a joke when it happened because of how ridiculous it was...then I forgot it was on there....now it just seems like I'm being a d1ck
The 5th gen drives like an old grandpa tank, the engine I feel has the power but with the sluggish pedal response and slugish transmission the 5th gen 4runner in my oppinion is best suited for off road and not for city street/highway driving. I love my 12 limited but it is very annoying to have to almost floor it everytime I try to enter an on ramp.
By reading through this post I guess there is nothing OUT CURRENTLY besides gearing that will give that extra umph get up that wil make this truck more paved street friendly.
I have installed a sprint booster which dosnt fit properly. Will need to install heat wrap around the heater core pipes near the pedal so it wont melt the sprintbooster. But besides that it does help the grandpa tank feel a little more responsive and less lag. 330.00 shipped. Kinda high for a unit that dosnt fit properly, but cheaper then trading her in so soon.

Well you kind of touched on the actual issue. It's not power. It's throttle input vs actual throttle response that's the issue. And that's personal, because what's right for me ain't what's right for you, which ain't right for my wife (who happens to exercise the traction control system in every vehicle except the 'runner).
The sprint booster acts as an amplifier, so changing the gas pedal input measured vs the gas pedal signal sent.
If you don't care about mileage, drive in 4, or 3, in sequential shift mode.
So a couple of points:
When you're "flooring it" you're unlikely to get more than about 75-90% throttle unless all the conditions that the computer looks for occur. Which doesn't matter except that when you meet all conditions it's a bit of a surprise.
Our T4R's and a number of newer vehicles respond to gas pedal "pokes" like mouse clicks - seriously. Let go of the gas an immediately press it again. It'll get out of 5th and and have more pickup. It's totally counter intuitive, and is also the reason why letting your foot off the gas and pressing it again when coasting reduces your mileage and makes your engine rpms jump around by a few hundred, and totally irritates people like me when we're your passenger.
So basically for me to get my 20-22 mpg and not drive like ol' gramps, I press the gas pedal to 30-50% to accelerate, let off the pedal to barely pressing it while coasting/driving to maintain speed, and let go and then press the gas pedal if I need more get up and go from anything other than a stop.
All vehicles have their idiosyncrasies.

wow I can't believe how much that thing is.. is there any after marking tuning available for these toyota computers? I know there's plenty for the Focus and a whole tune cost like $400 vs that little signal generator thing.

wait where did you get the sprint booster from?.. i sent them an email asking if they had a booster for the 5gen. they told me no..
Gas milage???? If i cared about gas milage, would have bought a Prius and not a Truck. Also the butt dyno is all that matters in a truck for me. Test drive I guess I fell into the hype of how great a Toyota 4runner is and how much I love the look. But if someone's what's to buy my 4runner ill sell it at a 4000. Loss of what I paid has 16k on it. I don't blame the 4runner its people that what a big truck that saves gas like a smart car, that's what is making trucks suck now a days.

well i raced my friends toyota xrunner. which has the same motor as us but detuned. 236hp. but with the 6spd manual.. and weight he takes me. but i hang with him up to 3rd..
