engine noise after deep water

So i noticed after wheeling through some deep water that my engine sounds weird a few days later.

It seems louder and kinda sounds like a diesel engine sounds.

I washed it of to get any muddy water off engine.

Any idea what's going on?

Check the oil and make sure you did not suck up any water? Also, water or mud could have gotten into a connection or spark plug hole causing a misfire.
 
Yeah, drain the oil and see how it looks. Could potentially be a cracked exhaust manifold? (Thermal shock.) Hard to tell from your description, though.
 
thanks for the replies fellas. I bought supplies for an oil change, will do that this evening. I also checked the air filter, I bought a cheap replacement filter till I can clean my AFE filter. I did notice some dried dirt in there. I also was thinking pulley like one of you said.
 
Well i changed the air filter and the oil and filter and still sounds weird. I think it is a pulley.
 
So I think I found the problem, I had just been dealing with the noise. Well today i turned on my AC for the first time drove for about 40 minutes, then. I turned it off rolledmy windows down and i could hear a little screech and some noise it Sounded like a bad pulley, with the little bit of a rattle. So I'm assuming most likely it's the pulley for my AC or what are you guys think?
 
Well it was initially just a rough sounding engine after the Deepwater, but now couple months later when I started using the AC for this season, now it sounds like a bad pulley and a rattle. Was all the time. And now screech and bar pulley sound is constant.
 
Well let me tell you guys, when a pulley is bad, it sounds like your engine is nearing catastrophic death. Like someone dropped a bag of marbles in your oil fill. Thank the Lord this awful sound was a bad idler pulley. I was able to pin point it by watching the pulley and when the noise got loud the pulley would shake. I swapped it out and we are golden.
 
Sorry, just now seen this thread... Yeah, just by listening to your vid, could tell that was an external sound for one, and definitely a pulley.

Did some playing at a deep water channel and had some sandy mud pits, took 2 pulleys out and manage to slowly take my starter with it.
 
Well now I'm getting a squeal on startup, you guys think it would be another pulley or the belt. I had replaced the belt not too long ago.
 
Does it sound like a squeal like old school cars like a loose belt when you rev it up?

Also, when you replace your pulleys, I know you had to figure out that the middle one was spring loaded for a tensioner, is it still movable like a tensioner?

It squeals only on startup and maybe first rev of the day. I only replaced one pulley, the one that was making noise. And it was an idler pulley. No tensioner

I notice you have old school rides and figured you know what the squealing belt noise when loose sounds like, if it's similar, as you describe I would say belt.

You have eliminated the tensioner pulley in my question.

They usually make a swoosh..swoosh sound when the bearings are going out due to foreign debree get in them.
