Engine noise help please

I've noticed a knock sound from my engine. I was wondering if anyone had ideas on what it might be. It's been making the noise for a while. Isn't really noticable on the highway. Mostly hear it during city driving.

Thought it might be the timing chain but i looked and the guides are not broken.

It doesn't sound that much unlike an exhaust manifold leak I had. It was cracked just above the boss on the manifold where the O2 sensor goes. If that isn't it, I've isolated knocks before,(never on a 22R, though), by unplugging the plug wires one at a time, restarting the engine and listening to see if the noise is changed significantly, or gone. Just a thought.

Definitely not the timing chain. It doesn't sound like the typical 22RE valve tap either. It could easily be a loose bracket somewhere in the drivetrain rattling against something, I've had that happen. Or it could be a knock in the bottom end. Can you isolate the location of the noise?

I spent some time going through the engine and it turns out the Y pipe has two cracks in it. The sound i'm hearing doesn't really sound like it's coming from the exhaust crack. Can exhaust issues cause echoing or misdirection of sound in some way?

I've had a nasty timing cover oil leak for a while so i decided to pull the oil pan and replace the timing cover gasket. While i had the oil pan removed, I tried to wiggle the bearing caps?. Sorry, i'm new to the terminology. I notice a slight front-to-back movement in all 4 caps. Very slight. I couldn't feel any up or down movement.

Is there something else I should check related to the knocking sound before putting things back together? I'm thinking of just ignoring it for now and address the issue if the sound gets worse.

A very small amount of front to back movement is fine. The FSM calls that thrust clearance. As long as you've got the pan off, get some plastigauge and check the bearing clearances too, just to be sure.

A mechanics stethoscope or a long screwdriver touching the motor and held up to your ear can help isolate motor noises. And try pulling the spark plugs one by one like pipefitter suggested - if it is rod knock, sometimes it will go away or get quieter if you pull the wire to the sparkplug for that cylinder. Check your timing too.

I wouldn't ignore it. It's not a normal sound and if it's coming from the motor, it's sure to mean Bad Things if left unchecked.

Just watched your vid, you have one the these 3 things going on, hard to tell
From vid , Rist pin,valve train issue,rod knock, like I said not hearing
In person hard to tell seems like coming from top of engine
