engine not running

i just got a 94 4runner sr5 with the 3vz and i have a problem getting it running there is a huge rip in the elbow that goes to the throttle body , will getting a cold air intake fix my issues ( rather than spending the same amount on the elbow itself ), im new to the whole mass air flow sensor idea, but it has started up, it ran rough at an idle, but i went to drive it and got less than a half a mile and it died and wouldn't start back up

Yes either replacing the elbow or switching to cold air intake will obviously fix problem at hand. After you replace it with either one unplug battery and let ecu reset and you ahould be good to go if that is your only issue.

The ebay Intakes though are not really cold air intakes. Your stock airbox is a better cold air Intake then the short ram Intakes. To truly have a cold air Intake it would route I to your fender.

Yes, that rip in the elbow is letting in unmetered air and screwing up your air-fuel mix.

You already have a cold air intake though, sucking air from right behind your front grill. I don't care what they call it, a cone filter is a hot air intake, because it's pulling air from the engine compartment.

And it won't do you much good performance-wise, not unless you plan on upgrading a lot of other stuff along with it. Hit a junkyard and get a new elbow for $5 and you'll be golden.

in the meantime, try to patch the ripped one as best you can - its only temporary til you get a new one

don't waste your money on "fancy" add-on's for your 3.0 engine, the 3VZ-E is pretty limited on power to begin with and it takes more than its worth to get more out of it

if you really want more power there are kits to swap out the toyota 3.4L V-6 or just drop a chev 4.3L in it, there is a thread on this forum where someone dropped a chev 350 in their T4R
