engine rebuilt kit. worth it?

I have a '90 4runner 3.slow v6. i can hear my valves ticking pretty bad one time it got starved for oil and knocked but doesnt knock anymore. it misfires alot sometimes when it warms up. im wondering if i were to buy a engine rebuilt kit that comes with pistols/valves would it be worth it? would it make it a pretty much new engine?


also right besides my oil cap is a hose that connects into my intake. there is a little 90" piece that goes down into it that broke from mine so it is now duct taped. does anyone know where i could find this part online? or should i go to toyota dealership and get charged $100?

I would just keep driving it until it gives up, no need to rush into a rebuild unless you have bad compression, burning oil etc...

It sounds like you are describing your PCV valve, you can get them at most auto parts stores, or online from Rock Auto, Partsgeek and LC Engineering for just a few bucks.

well i do have bad compression and i am burning oil pretty bad. and some bad oil leaks that i cant seem to pinpoint but my entire top and sides of my trans are cover and if you look from underneath the entire front side looks wet from oil. i would just drive it until it gives up but soon i am getting money and i probably wont have enough to afford it for awhile so just in case i was gonna go ahead and do it. i also think i may have messed something up when i changed my timing belt i think one of my camshafts were maybe a notch off and one of my buddies who knows about yotas told me that driving it like that probably has ruined my engine or is going to?

what im talking about is on the drivers side valve cover its about 2 inches back from the oil cap it has a hose that connects into the cold air intake? i thought the pcv was on the passenger side valve cover and that it was under the intake and what not

anyone got any ideas/opinions? also i think the hose im thinking of is called the air breather hose coming from the valve cover?
