Engine replacement ???

When I swapped engines I did VC gaskets, valve adjustment and rear main seal while engine was out.

Most people cannot teach themselves to rebuild a 5VZ-FE. The key thing is finding a quality machine shop to do the rebuild for you. Do you have access to a quality machine shop?

And as already said 1) no need to rebuild because of a few leaks 2) most people who ask this question in the first place aren't likely to succeed down this path

There are many risks with a JDM. Do a search for "JDM swap" using the advanced search function below.

I'm trying to be preemptive and figure out the best path to prevent leaving my wife stranded on the side the road. I'm not rebuilding myself if I do it. I'm only gonna rebuild the old one if I replace and only to learn the motor better.

sure its true some of these will go 400K...others don't make it to 200K. I'd be on the lookout for a low mileage swap.

Well, I think I'd rather choose the devil I know than the devil I don't know. You're low mileage swap might end of being a piece of junk. Now you just did all that labor for nothing. I'd rather fix something I know is working but just has a couple oil leaks.
