Engine sounds??

I was wondering if this sound was normal, or signs of something bad?
4R was idle.

I have Minimal/none knowledge of engines and their sounds. All I know is that when I accelerate it makes that sound, like an old Nissan Pathfinder clacking sound.

Was it a cold morning? Does the sound change when the engine heats up?

Does it ever change tho based of temp of motor like when it reaches normal operating temp? Have you tried moving around the engine bay and outside to isolate where the noise is coming from?

Not sure but that may be that "cracked manifold" sound other members have discussed. Search for that.

Full,change it a few days ago at the Toyota dealer.

I will try to take another video to isolate where the sound its coming from.

His sig says he's got a V6 - pretty sure the cracked manifolds are limited to the V8's.

I didn't turn my speakers up too loud but I'm not really hearing anything abnormal.

Yea. I didn't hear anything out of the ordinary.. Maybe lifters or some valve clatter.

I know, its not like out of the ordinary engine sound, am just very meticulous about my new(for me) truck. It reminded me of a Nissan Pathfinder my dad used to have, engine noise was horrible, like you could hear the pistons clacking or something.

Its very, super minimal on my 4runner, but I can still hear it when I accelerate on drive. Wonder if other V6's have it to?

It may just be you. As long as your levels are good, jut visually inspect everything check for leaks. Check belts. I admit the V6 is a little more noisier then most, but the roar it makes under WOT makes up for it

Sounds identical to mine. I baby the hell out of my truck. You have nothing to worry about, that "ticking" is perfectly normal.

Your probably right, its not like it's the worst sound or the loudest.

Now if you remove the HCF, then you will really give the motor some air to work with. Im sorry but ill argue with anyone when you actually see and feel the HCF, there is no way your overall performance doesnt increase from removing it. Try and breathe thru a straw or coffee filter next time you go running and you'll know how these motors feel

Correct. Or FTTM= Fat to the Mat which refrences a Dukes of Hazard Episode where Rosco was in the back of Boss Hoggs car and told his little fat buddy to "put the fat to the mat" :bravo:

I agree, I think it is a normal “ticking” sound for 4.0 V6.

That is correct you see it when you open the airbox near the manifold. You'll have the air filter, then if you move the air filter you'll see another towards the manifold that looks and feels like a giant dryer sheet. You can simply pop it out but be careful when doing so. It's delicate and easily breakable. Just in case you decide you want to put it back in.:jump:

I have the same sound on my V6 but I don't think it's normal.It is just too loud especially when driving near walls.

Its normal my v6 runner does it. As well as my parents 2012 taco did it from brand new. you notice it more on cold starts and by walls (drive thru etc)
