engine swap in a 3rd Gen 4runner

I recently bought a 1999 4runner and had 80k/km on it and was in deadly condition. The only downfall im finding is the lack of power where its a heavy truck with just a 3.4L V6. I was wondering how hard is it to put with the new 4.0L V6 or even the 4.7L V8 under the hood. If someone has done this thing can you please help me with that i got to watch out for when doing the swap.

With only 80,000 KM's on it , you could look at a TRD Supercharger . I would sooner do that than a major engine swap .

I've often wondered the same thing for when my engine finally blows(no sign of it yet though!!)...I think I'd look into the V6 first though for no particular reason. With all the stuff I've invested in my rig though I will definitely be doing an engine swap when this one goes...

IMHO a 4.0 V6 swap wouldn't be worth the time and effort. To me, the 4.0 does have some extra power when compared to the 3.4, but I think that it is still pretty slow. A 4.7 V8 swap would be pretty sick though! Or a TRD supercharged setup..

I'd agree on the 8 cylinder. No point in pulling a six to throw a six back in.

The 4.0L V6 would provide at least 50 HP and 60 torque more than the 3.4L V6.

Your best bet would be the 1UZ-FE or a 4.3 Vortec
