Engine Swap To-do List

Looking for advice and insight: What else should I do?

My '98 has 402k - still banging along fine - but a compression test indicated that two cylinders are out of spec. As much as I'd love to take it to the limit like Cosmo Kramer on a test drive, I'm of a mind to swap out the current engine/tranny with one from a 99 with 175k on it.

So far I plan to change:

- the timing belt/water pump
- the valve cover gaskets, etc
- the radiator and hoses
- the starter
- big 3 wiring
- spark plugs/wires

Mulling the necessity of changing :
- the rear main seal
(any thoughts on the necessity of a speedi sleeve for this?)
- the oil pan gasket
- the fuel filter

What have I forgotten? What else should I do "while I'm in there"?

i would def do the rear main seal w/ the engine out.

also check your engine mounts, since they will be out. Might want to change the front diff outputshaft seals as well

May research a bit on that, A lot changed from 98 to 99 and some things may not match up.

i would definitely do the rear main and if it were me(off the top of my head):

-PCV
-oil cooler seal
-knock sensors and harness(if you pull the intake)
-thermostat
-dipstick seals(only say this because i rebuilt the entire motor and that was the one seal i reused and only leak i have after almost 2k miles)
-wish i had addressed my steering rack leak before putting the motor back in

this is turning into a "my regrets" post, not sure if that helps
