Engine Swap (V6 to 22re)

Hey guys. I am trying to get some info on this swap. I have owned several Toyota trucks in the past (and own a couple of Toyota cars now) and never done anything bigger than a timing chain replacement. I have a line on a 2nd gen 4runner that needs an engine. It is 4x4, and currently has a V6 in it. He claims it needs a new engine. If this is the case, and I end up swapping another engine in, I would like to go with the tried and true 22re. Is this possible? What else will I have to change if I go this route? Is it more headache than it is worth?

I personally think it's more aggrivation than it's worth. The 3.0 got a bad rap for leaky head gaskets, but it's a pretty easy fix and it really is a decent engine. Definitely more powerful than the 22re.

I'd take a 22R or 22RE over the 3.slo any day.
The power and MPG are pretty poor.
But for the average person the swap is not worth while.
