Engine woes and the all-too-obvious fix

Denso and NGK will work fine in the Toyotas, infact some of our V6 & V8 engines come with both...

I was about to mention that. I don't know what other engines had this quirk, but when I had my 3rd gen V6, one bank came with NGK and one bank came with Denso. Something about contractual obligations with both suppliers, so both came OEM on the same car.

So, after re-reading the thread again tonight, a question still persists..

Obviously the bosch / etc. non japanese plugs are out..

but .. any opinions on Denso's vs. NGK's? are they "essentially" the same? is there
a way I can find out which ones are desired? experiences out there?

btw.. my post up above.. on my #5 cylinder issue.. anyone with thoughts?

my mechanic has began to move farther back in the chain, checking the connection from the wire all the way back to the ECU (computer timing problem?).. which seems to be very rare.

thanks so much!
Henning

To follow up on Blackwork's response, either is fine. Just make sure they're the plain copper plugs, my 3.4 didn't even like Iridiums.

I'm sure your mechanic knows what he's doing, but just from watching threads around here it seems like every time a 3.4 gets a misfire on a specific cylinder that isn't solved with new plugs and coils, it ends up being a blown head gasket. If he's still stumped after a bit, ask him if he'll perform a compression or leakdown test.
