Engine won't idle after seafoam...?

I just used some seafoam, 1/3 can as stated through the PCV. In the middle of pouring it, I may have poured too much and the engine shut off. I started it back up and it kept running fine until I could finish the rest of the treatment. I shut the engine off and reconnected the PCV hose.

I waited 5 minutes, as directed, and started it back up. The problem is that it won't idle. I have to keep the accelerator depressed to keep the truck from shutting off.
15 minutes later, same problem.

I hope this isn't the "hydro-lock" people were referring to with seafoam.
Any ideas? Should I just give it more time?

I don't think you have to worry about hydro-lock with the seafoam. I did the same thing with my wife's mustang GT. I ended up resetting the ECU by taking the battery off and then letting the computer then reset the running parameters. It took a little time but really ran good after the seafoam treatment. Good luck

If anything it might just be a matter of driving it until the seafoam is gone. Or worse; the seafoam freed up crud that was holding something together.

I know of a few folks tha have poured it in to fast and hydolocked, but it won't turn over if it's hydrolocked, much less fire up. It sounds like maybe you have a vacuum line still off.

I've never done a Seafoam on my 4runners, however I used it several times on my previous cars. Once or twice this same thing happened to me....car wouldn't want to idle. I just took it out and drove the snought out of it (7000rpm shifts) until the smoke started clearing out. After that it always idled fine.

It's back to normal guys. Thanks for the help and sorry for the concern.

Better than normal actually; the failure to downshift up hills or when floored has been fixed. That was a problem I had for more than 2 years. The truck is also slightly more responsive.
It must have been the seafoam that did it. Man that stuff sure made a difference. I almost regretted it, but now I just wish I had used more.

It still stays in gear longer (another thread), but hopefully with a few touch ups and some TLC that will be fixed too.

I seafoamed my old Cherokee, but it didnt make any noticable difference. Thought about doing it in the 4runner, but dont know if its worth some of the risks (hydrolocking, etc) One of these days I will just take it in and have the fuel injectors claened since its only $100 or so and should achieve similar results.

This product seems safer to use than trying to guess, and pour it in. This kit hooks up to the throttle body and sprays itself in.

by putting seafoam in the intake through a vacuum line it acts as a upper intake cleaner. Works really well at getting rid of carbon in the intake. When you put a can in the tank at the same time you get the fuel system cleaned as well. Just follow the directions on the can and it works great. Just a warning that when you restart the engine after the upper intake clean your car will smoke like a James Bond smoke screen. :uzi: sometimes it takes a couple of treatments to get things really clean. I throw a can in the tank when I change the oil. and then once or twice a year clean the upper intake. keeps things humming along
