it has been almost 1 year with this winch. how is it holding up??

It sounds like [MENTION=88391]NateMob[/MENTION] has put his through the ringer more so that I have.
I have used mine exactly 4 times: Twice to pull myself out, and twice to pull out small cars/sedans who slid off the road during the snowstorms we have had over the past few months. In those 4 uses I have had no issues whatsoever. I will second what Nathan said because it is a little on the loud side and it's not the fastest winch on the market, but so far it has held up great and I have no complaints. As far as the synthetic line goes, it seems to be holding up pretty well, although I'm sure it needs to be unspooled and cleaned with all the snow and resulting road salt...

Loud and line speed are two things that have no relevance whatsoever to whether or not the winch will get your ass out of a sling

My 10000s is still sitting on my garage floor, waiting for me to finish my motor swap so I'll have time to wire it up. I'm looking forward to trying it out. This thread was the one that got me looking into Engo in the first place, I hadn't heard of them. Appreciate the heads up!

We didn't say it did, but as this is a review thread it should be stated that;
a. It's loud under normal use.
b. Its slow under load.

Sounds like this a well worth the money. I think if I was going to be using a winch once or twice a month...I might step up to a warn. Thus getting faster line speed and no loud winching noise. But I'm pretty sure my usage will more mirror your usage; therefore, it wouldn't be worth the extra cash. My main thing is...I want it to work when I need it...and it sound like that won't be a problem!!
Thanks again for the respounce and all the information on this winch. I'll be honest...I hadn't even heard of this winch until I read your post...maybe you should ask for a kick-back for advertising...lol!!

Used mine for the first time today. After spooling out just a couple feet of line, I found this:
It's fouled badly. I'm sure I can untangle it, but I'm more worried about whether I can trust it after it's been kinked like that and then sat for who knows how long. This is my first winch, what do you the rest of you think?

wow, i would not trust it. i wonder if anyone else has this issue. call engo and see what they will do for you. i dont care how great the winches are, what separated great from good is the customer service that backs great company!
sucks balls that you need to use it and thats when it fails.

I cant see the photos on the DOD computer here at work but it sounds like the rope is distorted from the wraps lapping over it, is that correct? You said today was your first time using it, did you properly dress the winch and rope before today? Meaning did you unspool all but the last wrap of rope and hand feed the rope back onto the drum under a light load? Doing so pre-stretches the cable and readies it for your first pull, otherwise the rope tightens on itself as the slack is pulled out, potentially damaging the inner wraps of rope.
If i'm way off base just disregard my ramblings lol. Ill take another look when i am back in the room today and can see the photos.

I didn't, I didn't know that was necessary. But the rope isn't just distorted, it's looped and kinked and squished under the upper layers, and this was before I'd ever spooled it out.
I've got an email into Engo, we'll see what they say.

It's not necessary. I don't have to do that when we do the warn winches with synthetic rope.
Hindsight is always 20 20. Should have could have would have lol.
Now all you can do is hope engo does the right thing by you.
When I switched to synthetic from metal. I "walked my truck" while using the winch to reel it in so the line would be spooled right.

Yeah its in the instruction manual under installation. This is something that always needs to be done, no matter rope or cable.
AND YES IT IS NECESSARY, EVEN ON WARNS.

Ok you right, I'm wrong. Feel better? I meant spool it out. Since the synthetic is not pre installed. And it has to be installed. If you owned a warn or installed one you would know what I am taking about. Personally I do, personally I have installed warns. I looked at engos prior to my own purchase. I went name brand and something I was familiar with.

Installation instructions are nothing more than another man's opinion.
I kid, I should have read them better I guess. I'm not taking the blame for this though, because my spool looked like that before I ever put tension on that line. I found that while I was pulling it out to hook up the winch rope.

I've owned Warns and installed them.:yo: I KNOW what i am talking about and can back up the information that i am providing to the OP as opposed to just sayin "oh you shoulda bought this brand, then youd have sunshine and rainbows shooting out your ass" .
EDUCATE YOURSELF on how to install and own a winch before posting again. Any winch, they will all say the same thing, no matter synthetic or steel, read the WARN PDF i posted. Please.

No you are right, this isn't your fault! Buuuuut if you had stretched the cable after immediate installation, an untimely discovery like this wouldnt happen on the trail. Either way, I'm sure Joel will take care of you.

I feel fine and no need to bow down. I just implore others to have an understanding of what it is they are talking about when trying to give others "advice".
Extra points if you can give them sources, links, any reliable source for the next person that may have the same problem.
