Error 4 on Scion HU

Hi everyone -

I installed a Scion 6 disc changer back in January and I'm not having a problem with it. The radio works fine... but last week I started getting an 'ERROR 4' when I try to use the CD player. The manual says that this error message means that the amperage is too high.

Anyone else have this issue? Any idea how to fix it?

A baseball bat should make the error message go away. Its a 3 step process, aim, wind up, swing. Problem solved....new problem created however.

Sorry for my bad jokes, its one of those days. Anyway, it sounds like it is getting too much power from the alternator, maybe? Are you sure everything is hooked up properly? Could possibly be some sort of a crossed wire somewhere, or perhaps a faulty wiring harness?

Been working fine for the past 5 months, so I don't know where a wire could have gone bad. I wish that since this was a Toyota stereo that it would be covered under the 4Runner's warantee, but that would be too much to ask for.

I'm going to take it out pretty soon and mess with it a little to see if I can get it to work. Otherwise, I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

It's been going on for over a week, so the car has been stopped and started many times. I guess tomorrow I'll try disconnecting the battery and seeing if that works.

What are my options past that? Taking it to the dealer and paying $500 to get it fixed?

So I disconnected the battery for a while this afternoon, but no dice. The radio hadn't even lost it's memory, so I thinking that I should leave it unhooked overnight or something. Any idea how long it takes to reset?

Any other ideas out there? How much is it going to cost to get this thing fixed?

Disconnect the battery and then attempt to start the car, that should drain any residual energy left in the lines...that should reset it....unless the scion has an internal battery to prevent it from losing its memory, but that would be doubtful.

Funny you should say that... i actually did turn the key all the way while the battery was disconnected... still no dice. I'm probably going to take it apart this next weekend and see what happens.
