errr... I tapped the wrong wire and bad stuff.

I was in the process of tapping the reservse signal lead to get my rear camera working in reverse on my head unit. I did a search and found a post on a nav install which pointed out which wire to tap. So I went out and did it but when I started to car to check if it worked the check engine and VSC/Trac lights were both on and stay on. So then I went inside to verify if I had gotten the wrong wire and sure enough I mistook the wire bundle for a different one and now I think I'm screwed...
I just made an appointment with my dealer to take it in and check it out, of course neglecting to mention the fact I might have caused said problem. Any input here? How on earth could tapping an incorrect wire set off those lights?

As long as it is driving OK, I would give it a day or two. Although it hasn't happened to me, I thought there have been posts here saying it reset itself.

could be a long shot, but try pulling the positive cable off your car for a few minutes and let things reset. may save you a trip to the dealer.

also post up which wire/bundle you tapped into. I'm sure someone on here has a wiring manual and maybe give you some more info on what you tapped into.

Not that it should really matter in most situations, but they usually say to disconnect your negative cable. I know there is a reason for this, but can't recall. Anybody?

My initial thought was that because I unplugged that connector it probably needs to be reset. I pulled the negative battery cable but only had it disconnected for maybe 1 minute at most which is usually ok for resetting things like when the backdoor wigs out and such. I'll try it again for a good 15 minutes or so.

Just wanted to update the situation. Sure enough I reset it and all is well again... I went back out and tapped the correct wire this time and now all is happy good times stuff. Obviously the connector I unplugged when tapping the first wire was a critical one, but at least you guys saved me a trip to the stealership where I'm sure I would have gotten laughed at...

if that was the case I'd fear for my life everytime I drove anywhere...

The positive side will spark (and possibly cause your battery to explode) if you disconnect/connect it when the negative side is connected. That is why you should disconnect the negative side first when removing the battery, and connect it last when installing the battery.

Wrong wire

I have sen the post on how to tap into a reverse wire. Well on my 03 SR5 the wires were different color. I finally tapped into the revese and even thoug it was different color it was same wire.

Now I didn't connect camera yet and I know the reverse wire is properly connected when I am in reverse the screen does not go blank is this ok? Do i need a camera signal for this to work?
