OK so thoughts on this-

I was driving today and lost all power(everything). I turned into a parking lot and stopped. The Battery light was on and for the last three days the check engine light was on also. I turned the 4runner off. Right after this I went to start it and it fired right up? I was not sure what to think. The battery is new and so is the Alternate. I checked both for something else not long ago and it was reading 12.5, I'm thinking the fuse maybe that controls the alternate? It is 120amps and I'm thinking it might be bad. Am I off on this one. I just can't think what else it would be. I have not put it in water. Nothing has been messed with,so I'm kinda stumped right now. Again, thoughts? It will be at another T4R members house in a bit when he gets off work.

Fuses are kind of binary... they either work, or they dont.

What was the check engine light code?

What do you mean, you "lost all power, then turned it off" - like it got sluggish while driving, or you had electrical things going out?

Like I said I just lost power. The tac. dropped to 0, the radio was dead, power steering was gone, truck died. When I got it into the parking spot just for giggles I tried to start it( I was expecting nothing to happen) and it started right up like no big deal. I was about 40 minutes from the house so I was not really liking the idea of being stranded on the So-Cal freeways, so it is getting picked up by on of the guys on here for safe keeping, if it starts and makes it to his house which is close. I do not know what code it is throwing because that was going to be looked at one Friday this week. Guess I have something else to add to that list now besides the code.

Bad grounds will do all kinds of crazy stuff.

Kraze picked it up for me and said that the Batt terminal neg cable was loose as hell. Other than this he said it started right up and ran great.

I was thinking about it and even if it is after it starts it should not just die like that.

I'll see what I can do in the morning.

Sounds like a bad ground to me as well. If it was just your terminals you would have problems starting the truck, not just it running. You can run your truck with no battery in it after it is started. Still, make sure your battery cables and everything that goes to it is nice and tight.

I wouldn't rule out the alternator. It is possible that your alternator is doing some weird shit. If your alternator was not producing voltage then the truck should of ran 100% off the battery and would drain the battery all the way down. Then, you would not of been able to restart the truck when it died on you.

They call Electronic THEORY not Electronic FACT for a reason.

Update!!!!

^^^ Cool Pic. A shout out the Kraze and his roommate for the help toying with the truck. Some good people my friends. Not your typical So-Cal peeps. Some good Ol Boys.

So today we found out the codes. P1135, and P0125

Mass Air flow sensor cleaned that was nasty dirty and the air box. The throttle body was also cleaned. Kraze found something about the Front O2 sensor also?

Anyone care to comment on that and how it possibly killed the truck the other day. I can see if the M.A.F is gummed up making the EUC think it needs to shut down but not sure about the O2 thing.

Front O2 will adjust the fuel trims if its not reading correctly... maybe made it run really rich or lean, and then didn't pair well with a bad MAF?

you're likely now to see a good 1-2 mpg bump with a new O2 sensor tho!

I hate those odd problems. The first thing I thought was it was an issue with a ground, I had a bad one on a Dodge 2500 Cummins that caused such weird issues and I threw so much money in parts at it before I found a write up at Diesel forum. Sounds like you guys are checking all the right things and it's good you found people to help, it's always more fun.

Hopefully you've fixed it and it won't happen again.

I'm still doing some reading on all this. I might change that sensor just to be safe. 100 bucks and some time hanging with cool people and the pups is always a good day. And of course

It just threw me because the Batt. and the Alt. are new and not even three months old. I will drive it more and see what happens.

Maybe get the battery checked out anyway with a reader from oreilly/autozone anyway? Even though its new, it might have had a slight manufacturing defect? (rare, but possible?) But if the battery is bad, it will always be bad, as in - not intermittent.

I don't remember what I paid for it, but I got a great deal from amazon on an OEM O2 sensor

Yeah but the Batt is running 14.4-14.5 when running and 12.5 when it is not on. So I think it is ok. Kraze said they are like 100 bucks off amazon. Think I'll order one on Friday.

If I did not just drop 250 bucks on my dog I would do it now. Training thing better be worth every penny is all I'm saying.

Your power loss issue, is definitely related to the battery connection issue. I had the same symptoms with mine. Only my truck, almost left my wife stranded on a railroad track, and once on the side of the highway! :(

I ended up buying new terminal connectors, and upgraded it to something better.

That was fixed today. 9 bucks at PetBoys and ten minutes to Cut and Strip and clamp it in. It is even Gold Plated, lol. I think it so they can justify getting 5 bucks more than the normal lead connecter.

I'm thinking bad ground. Also, check your terminal connections to make sure that their clean. Put a little di-electric grease on there too.
