First this is not a dong measuring competition between Escort and Valentine products.

I just got a Redline for my dad for Christmas - anyone have any experience with them?

I have a 9500i, Im looking to upgrade to the Redline w/ the GPS add-on.

I don't know which radar detector is better -- but depending upon where you drive, one of those gadgets could end up giving you a false sense of security. Aside from "instant on" radar units (which will let your detector warn you that you are going to get a ticket), some agencies are using non-radar devices that you won't pick up with a radar detector because they don't transmit a radio wave that it can receive.

There main one is probably VASCAR, but there is also Viscalc, Enradd, E.S.P. and even a simple stopwatch used with white lines perpendicular to the travel lane. Lidar (laser) is coming into vogue and does have a beam that can be detected - but it is very, very narrow and is harder to receive.

A detector is another tool in your belt that can be used against traffic enforcement, but a good CB radio will probably be a better asset - especially if you drive a lot on Interstate highways. Another thing on the market now is a full-tilt GPS unit that contains a radar detector within it! This would probably be the ultimate in stealthiness, as most officers stopping you would not know it is different from a regular GPS that you find at Best Buy.

Try the link I have shown below, as it shows test results of different radar detectors when they are compared side by side. Interesting site, I must say!
