I feel bad...

I picked up a 2021 and the LED headlights are so bright...
1. No need for aftermarket bars
2. Everyone thinks I am driving with my highbeams on and flashes me.

At stoplights, when someone is in front of me or coming at me, I shut it down to the halogen DRL's which are too dim to drive with.

But yeah, I have been in a few older Gen 5's in my quest to buy, and those headlights can make you want lightbars.
You add a bar to this, and you will REALLY piss people off.

One thing that concerns me, and why I was looking for an older unit was snow/ice buildup on the cover/lens. Some of us HAVE to drive in snow.

I was looking at some aftermarket heated plow lights before I picked this thing up, and once I get some rust inhibitor sprayed, I will drive in the snow and see if I need them.

I don't want to soil the frame and add an extra step to clean, so it will sit mostly until I get sprayed.

Second this. There are some older posts on the forum outline the proper height and method to measure.
Mine came too high as well, I think it was due to the tires the dealer put on.

I haven't studied under the hood much, yet .


I was unaware they even could be adjusted.
The only rig I have with easily adjustable lights is a Rover.
A Tacoma is just a whole assembly bolted in, never saw adjustments so I used some shims.

I never saw it. Guess I never looked hard enough.
I just know if anyone with a spare tire on the rear back in, the mounts cracked.

Sounds like something that hasn’t changed in 11 years. I had to adjust mine off the lot.
You use a Phillips head screwdriver vertically to turn a gear.
I remember turning the screwdriver a lot more turns than you would think to even figure out which way it was moving.
On the 10-13 it’s easily visible behind the upper radiator cover. On the 14 up there’s a hole in the cover according to this thread.

I jumped in a Sienna to move it and could not see jack...

Guys I work with have to take night vision tests, and **supposedly** since the LED street lights, their night vision is **supposedly** declining somehow while normal vision stays the same.
I don't know too much about eyes though outside of rods and cones.

Also, it's worth mentioning: the folks with lightbars aren't running them while on the road, that'd be a pretty quick way to get a ticket. In some states you are actually required to cover your lightbar even if it's not in use. Lightbars are for use off-road (or rural roads where you're the only one... :spy

Jeepers use BRIGHT bars here (NY/NJ) even with the street lights.
I guess it's the "cool" factor and they don't realize people this they are a-holes for blinding everyone else on the road.

I also noticed that the auto high beam setting doesnt work well with old cars with dirty and/or weak headlights. Second that as well. Also, if you put on a lift or leveling kit, you need to have the the headlights adjusted as well.

When I put in my leveling kit, I had the headlights adjusted when I got the wheel alignment done.

Thanks for the link. I just got my first flash last night. IDK if the Auto Brights were the problem or not. Jury is still out on that feature.

Funny thing is, I was just about to flash him for having NO headlights @ 7pm. :shocked:

You can rest assured that streetlight technology is driven by 2 factors, power consumption and overspill. Street lighting is now more uniform and lower. Enough, but just enough.

I had LASIK surgery several years ago. One of the side effects is a starburst or halo effect at night. IMO the LED street lamps cause more starburst than the sodium lamps, especially when they are trying to be yellow. Newer lamps seem to be better on my eyes though.

Wow

After changed my bulbs , got the same reaction ! So checked the old threads & found the adj screw on my new to me 14'& 51s to 2.5 , lot easier removing the top cover piece because it takes quite a few turns to move it down (shite) :doh:! I just turned down drivers side probably 10 turns 8mm does it !
