Exaust rattle

Hey everyone I have an 08' V6 and was wondering about an exhaust rattle. I still hsve basically stock piping but I had my rear two cats removed and replaced with pipe that was just welded in. What in that area would cause a raddle when my car is on mainly at idle.

Were the heat shields removed when the cats were? The bolts on the shields are usually the first to rust out and will cause a rattle. I'd start by looking there. You can remove the shileds if they weren't or take the bolts out and put a large washers on them and then put back in.

I will have to check that but I dont think there were any heat shields on the second cats they are the one's behind the O2 sensors

also I would check the screws that hold the piping together right before the muffler. The ones with the little spring things. I was never able to get those to go on just right again, and it always rattled at lower speeds. I ended up having to take them out and using an impact wrench to tighten some regular nuts and bolts there. Good luck!

:iagree:

The heat shields are not attached to the cats, they attach to the body. Once the corrosion forms, it does not take much to get the shields loose.
