Excess grit in door wells

I've owned my '07 4runner for 6 weeks now, and I'm noticing a considerable amount of dirt in the door wells. This isn't a major issue by any means, but considering the 4runner is engineered to be driven off-road, I'm surprised at the amount of sand & grit that gets into the door jams. Are you guys dealing with this as well, or should I bring it up to the dealer when I take her in for my first oil change? Perhaps the molding wasn't properly installed?

This is a very common thing and you're not missing any molding. I've just gotten used to it and make sure I clean that area out when I wash the truck.

Yes, especially the back doors. The rear wheels are able to get a lot of dirt/sand/salt into the rear door jamb because of the design.

I've also learned that it's an area that needs special attention when washing the truck.

I've noticed this too. I just hit the power washer and rinse it off.

It's not a deal breaker by any means, but Toyota needs to address this. It's a simple engineering fix, and with a little bit of thought they could easily correct the problem. It seems like something more likely to affect Ford than Toyota.

I have the same problem with my truck. It gets even worse in the winter with all of the rock salt on the road.

yeah, I still have dirt/sand in there from Death Valley from 2 years ago...

That was driving me nuts too. I finally went to advanced auto parts and picked up some of that cheap weather stripping that they had on the shelf and put it on the bottom of the door. It worked okay for a while but it needs to be done over again.

I asked my dealer about it and they looked at me like I was an idiot.

Bobbyg123 is right, that is an easy fix toyota should have taken care of.

Sounds like a typical response from a dealer!

I got that look when I went in one time and asked them about C-BEST settings. I figured that there's no way they don't know what C-BEST settings are, so I assume they didn't want to be bothered with something so petty.

Dirt in rear doors

I had the same problem with my 04 i added 1\2 inch thick weather stripping i stuck it on the original weather stripping on the inside from top to bottom that stopped all dirt from getting in.It stayed like that till i got my 06 sport just did the same to my sport plus i got rid of the tube steps and put on the regular black running boards cause all the dirt shot up under the doors.

ya, my 04 does the same thing and one of the first things I noticed too.

My 91 never had a problem like that, so it really surprised me when I opened one of the rear doors and saw how much stuff builds up back there.

Yeah, I've noticed that little spot on the rear doors that collects a lot of grit. Just hit it for a while with the spray and it'll wash out. Also, has anybody noticed that little circular, grill-like cut-out just ahead of the right front tire in the wheel-well? It lets lots of stuff collect in the fender just ahead of the right tire. You gotta blast that area, too. It helps to lift the hood and direct the spray nozzle down into the area. It can really collect a bunch of stuff, more than even the previously mentioned rear door sills.
