excessive belt squel and ski tours in the CO

lol, 3 part question
this all started happening a month ago after my timing belt change (all other belts as well)
1. what can cause excessive belt squeal?(dirt,loose belts,)
2.cures for excessive belt squeal?

3. who here tele's or goes randonee in the CO?
looking to come out that way this winter and need some epic places, not looking to go to vail or other yuppie/tourist places, i want the real CO,
thanks guys on all accounts, gonna start planning my trip in the next week or so for around thanksgiving or some other big break over the winter.

Did you just replace the belt? Usually a belt will squeal because it has become stretched out and is slipping on the pulleys. Make sure the tensioner is tight.

i had it done by the shop, $800 bucks, lol i was told they even have the toyota dealership tol to set the tension on that belt, lol

i assume we're talking about the tensioner for the timing belt which is under the timing belt cover? right? you think i should take it back in there and complain?
..... i hate to complain.....well 'cept to you guys,

We are talking about the Serp belt, correct? This is what I was assuming. Your timing belt should NOT be squealing...

I belive that there is an adjuster bolt that increases or decreases tension on the belt (as opposed to the cantilever system in the 1zzfe engine in my wife's Corolla). Just loosen (not remove) the nut and you should be able to remove the belt. Note: Make sure you have a belt diagram before you remove the old belt. If you dont, then draw one!

lol, no $800 to replace all of my belts and water pump, i was just *****ing about total cost and the fact that something is going on, i too believe the tensioner is to blame from just the way it's acting and the fact it's getting worse.

but like said above they replaced all belts so the serp belt should be fine as well, maybe they just didn't tighten everything down enough, as none of these belts should be worn yet.

Yeah, they might have just not set the correct tension. Remember, that as you use a rubber belt, it will loosen. Usually this happens after about 15 minutes of driving on the belt.

Is this continuous squealing or does it go away after you drive for a mile or so? If it's continuous, you could have a pulley that's about to go bad....

just till recently it was just on start up and now it's happening all the time in the 1500-2K rmp range then fades out.

Yeah....that sounds like a bad pulley. Those pulleys are nothing but bearings with a piece of metal wrapped around them....they are rebuiladble, but new ones are not much more expensive. I'm lazy and always buy the new ones. You should be able to figure out which one it is if you start the engine and pop the hood and listen. When the pulley goes bad, it'll kill that new belt.
