Excessive Sulfur Odor TSB-0342-09

Attached is a copy of the Excessive Sulfur Odor TSB for 2007 to 2009 V8 4 Runners. Mine is scheduled for part replacements on Friday of this week.

I had this tsb performed when I was first released and it did not solve the issue one bit. Has another tsb been released since then?

I am interested in finding out if this did indeed solve the problem or not. I have 600 miles to go and I don't want to waste me time with it if it didn't resolve the issue. And does this have an impact on performance at all?

This fix hardly helps the sulfur issue. I've had just about every tsb performed, but they can't solve the sulfur issue. It has to do with how their cats work in the exhaust system.

Does anyone know if condensate inside the drivers side headlamp lens would be covered under the extended warranty?

The problem could be a bad catalytic converter..or a bad O2 sensor causing the system to run a little rich. Sulfur smell is usually caused by unburned gas getting into the cat.

Pull a few plugs if you think it may be burning rich but the sulfur smell is unique to Japanese vehicles. Even Honda's have the same issue.

Sorry to say this fix hardly does anything at all...that's being nice... It s a placebo TSB fix! It may help with having your front or rear windows open some, but if the rear gate windows is open at all you will get the smell. I'm hoping when I put a Borla dual side exit exhaust it will help get the fumes away from my vehicle vs. rear exit exhaust...but who knows exactly...

I have elected to blow this off, I have 200 more miles until 80,000 miles and honestly don't want to leave my truck with the dealer. Hell with it, guess when I roll with my rear window down I will just have to drive mellow and it doesn't stink me out...

was there ever a real fix for this? better to go aftermarket cat?

I did the TSB. does not help. I put a magnaflow side exhaust on and it did not help. still get the smell when the window is open.
