Think they can stick the twin turbo V8 from the M5 in there?

If we're talking pipedreams, the inline 6 turbodiesel from the x5 would be incredible, mated to an 8-speed. They get ~30 mpg highway, with 255 hp and 413 ft/lb, and more or less the same curb weight as a LE.

Wouldn't that seem like a logical choice for Toyota to put that in the 4runner? Plenty of power, 8-speed transmission, better gas mileage...why not do it!!?
 
My wishful thinking is the 4.0L stays with an 8 spd tranny from the LC200. In order to avoid anything remotely related to the Taco, give me the Fortuner...
